EDC @ College East
  

 

Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) @ College East is a one-stop enterprise support centre which support young and budding new entrepreneurs.  Housed within the 8,000 square feet centre are facilities supporting the various new services and innovation & entrepreneurial-directed programmes.

FACILITIES
Facilities housed within the EDC include the iCreate Studio, the Biz Lounge, Co-Working Hub and incubation offices.
iCS (iCreate Studio)
The iCreate Studio, or iCS is fully-equipped with computer workstations and learning resources to support students' entrepreneurial projects, furthering ITE College East's 3E entrepreneurship development model - Education, Experimentation, and Enterprise.
Students at iCS get a first taste of entrepreneurship education and experimentation through classes and workshops conducted here.

Biz Lounge
The Biz Lounge within the EDC is a fully furnished lounge with AV equipment and a pantry. Business networking sessions of up to 25 persons can be hosted comfortably. The cozy atmosphere here encourages formal and informal business discussions.

SERVICES
Mentoring & Biz Clinic
Lecturers from the Entrepreneurship Department are able to provide business consultancy services that nurture raw business ideas with an acorn to oak tree philosophy.
Biz Clinic offers business consultancy services to ITE students and graduates. Lecturers with the relevant business experience are available to advise students and graduates on the feasibility of their business plans, its development and implementation. Post business set-up advisory services are also available.
Networking
Networking opportunities with relevant entrepreneurs abound either through the ShellLiveWIRE Programme or in-house events
Funding
Assistance is provided to students to secure funding for their business proposals from sources such as Youth Business Singapore and Spring Singapore's "Yes!" Start-ups programme.
ITE Student Enterprise Fund
The ITE Student Enterprise Fund (SEF) is open for applications from student entrepreneurs. Financial support is now made available for students to kick-start their business ideas while still in school.
PROGRAMMES
Shell LiveWIRE Singapore Programme
The EDC at ITE College East acts as the official secretariat office of Shell LiveWIRE Singapore.
The Shell LiveWIRE programme finds much synergy with the endeavours of the EDC, promoting entrepreneurship awareness amongst youths, aged 13 – 35. Recent activities include seminars, competitions, workshops and the biennial LiveWIRE and LiveSPARK Awards 2011.

Funding
Assistance is provided to students to secure funding for their business proposals from sources such as Youth Business Singapore and Spring Singapore's "Yes!" Start-ups programme. One such example is UNDGRND, an online T-shirt start-up which combines the advantages of e-commerce and mobile phone apps.
Student Enterprise Fund
Assistance is provided to students to secure funding for their business proposals from sources such as Youth Business Singapore and Spring Singapore's "Yes!" Start-ups programme. One such example is the Underground, a new B2C online T-shirt company that combines the advantages of e-commerce and mobile phone apps.NEW!

Incubation Programme @ EDC
  

Overview
New start-ups created by ITE students, graduates and external parties can apply for incubation at the EDC. The EDC incubation program acts as the greenhouse that facilitates the tapping of expertise and facilities offered by various faculties within ITE. 
By providing an affordable business office space with value-added facilities and services, it is hoped actual operating businesses will create an environment of entrepreneurship that spawns student enterprises or encourage students to experiment with enterprise as a viable option to employment.
Benefits of Incubation at EDC
Incubatees enjoy the following attractive terms of use:
  • Competitive office incubation space at SGD 16.00 per sqm for Public and SGD 13.00 per sqm for ITE Graduates.
  • Incubation period shall be for a period of 1 year, with an option for extension of 1 year.
  • A host of opportunities to work on collaborated projects. Incubated companies also expect free consultancy services provided by EDC, ITE’s Industry Liaison Office (ILO), or ITE Alumni Office up to 2 hours a week.
  • Value-added office facilities such as common office equipment, telephone number, mailing address, reading periodicals, use of EDC meeting rooms and business lounge at EDC through reservation.
Criteria for Application for EDC’s Incubation Program
The incubation program at EDC is open to start-ups founded by ITE students, graduates and entrepreneurs from the public. The applicant is required to have sufficient funds for the company to operate for at least 12 months from the date of proposed occupancy. This can be in the form of share capital, grants, loans or any other sources of fund. More importantly, all applications are to be registered businesses with good legal standing.  
Application & Approval process
The application and approval processes are undertaken separately at each of the 3 EDCs.

Completed submissions should include the following documents:
  • Duly completed application form.
  • A business plan for the product or services offered by the company, or write-up of innovation or application of technology,
  • A copy of registration certificate and Memorandum & Articles of Association of the company.
An evaluating committee would review each applicant through an interview assessment. Some consideration factors include technology used in the business, innovativeness in business offerings, commitment of the company management team, and the possible synergy between the incubatee’s business and ITE’s capabilities and objectives.
