Setting Up the Regional Vocational Training Centre in Jordan
In FY 2006, ITE was appointed as the project consultant by the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs to set up a Regional Vocational Training Centre (RTVC) in Jordan under the auspices of AMED (Asia-Middle East Dialogue). The centre will focus on vocational training and develop training standards for individuals entering the labour market across the region. It will be a key component in Jordan’s wider efforts to develop a well-trained workforce attuned to the region’s industry needs and to complement Jordan’s economic liberisation initiatives.
The Building Services Technology Department (BST) from ITE College East was engaged to work on this project in setting up of the RVTC and developing the curriculum and teaching materials. The BST staff also developed a 120-hour Air-conditioning Systems Maintenance & Diagnostic programme to upgrade the skills of Jordanian craftsmen and skilled workers working in the air-conditioning, refrigeration and eating industry.

ITE-ASME Collaboration |
The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (ASME) will cooperate to enhance ITE students’ learning and training opportunities with SMEs via a Mentorship Programme and Jobs-for-Trial Programme. Under the Mentorship Programme, SMEs will mentor and pass on their entrepreneurial spirit and skills to ITE graduates whilst the Jobs-for-Trial Programme will provide ITE students and alumni with full-pay work and on-the-job training opportunities to gain useful skill sets and attain financial independence.
ITE and ASME will also jointly organise an ASME Forum as well as an Award annually. The ASME Forum is a one-day event which seeks to profile and raise awareness of SMEs to students, demonstrating the importance of SMEs in Singapore’s economy and also sharing SME career opportunities with ITE students. An Award will be established to encourage entrepreneurship among the student body and recognise deserving students.
